A CONTOUR DIABETES App Alternative That Works With Any Meter

The CONTOUR DIABETES app is built around one thing: syncing with a CONTOUR meter. If that fits you, keep it. If your meter isn't supported, the app isn't published in your country, or you simply don't want an account, DiabetLog keeps the same logbook by hand — charts, target range, reminders and a PDF for your doctor, stored only on your phone.

First, the part most comparison pages skip

DiabetLog does not connect to a glucose meter over Bluetooth. Not to a CONTOUR NEXT ONE, not to anything else. If automatic sync is the reason you use the CONTOUR DIABETES app, no third-party logbook will replace it, including this one.

What DiabetLog replaces is the logbook around the readings. You read the number off whatever meter you own and type it in. In exchange, the log stops depending on one manufacturer, one country's app store and one account. For a lot of people — especially anyone testing once or twice a day with a meter the CONTOUR app was never going to talk to — that trade is worth making.

Why people look for a CONTOUR app alternative

Your meter isn't on the sync list

Ascensia's own support pages state that only the CONTOUR NEXT ONE and CONTOUR NEXT GEN meters sync with the CONTOUR DIABETES app. Any other meter — an older CONTOUR, a pharmacy brand, a hospital loaner — has to be typed in by hand anyway. At that point the app is doing no more for you than a general logbook would.

There is no app for your country

The CONTOUR DIABETES app ships as separate country builds, each tied to a market Ascensia sells in. If you live somewhere without a build, or you move abroad and your store region changes, the app you were using can stop being available to you. DiabetLog is one app in every store region.

You switched meters and lost the history

A manufacturer app is tied to that manufacturer's hardware. Change brand and you start a new logbook. A meter-independent log keeps going across whatever you test with, because the reading is just a number you enter.

You'd rather not register at all

DiabetLog has no sign-up, no profile and no server. Your readings are written to your phone and stay there. Nothing is uploaded unless you deliberately export a report and send it yourself.

CONTOUR DIABETES app vs DiabetLog

Two different jobs. One is a meter companion, the other is a logbook.

What you get instead

A logbook that belongs to you rather than to a meter. Every reading you enter is charted against the target range your care team gave you, summarised with averages and in-range statistics, and kept on the phone rather than on someone else's server.

If you want the longer version, the digital diabetes logbook page explains what belongs in a log and why, and the iPhone page covers Apple Health sync in detail.

Entry takes seconds

Type the number your meter shows, tag it (fasting, before a meal, bedtime) and it joins your history. That speed is the whole point: a log you keep for a year beats a log you abandon in a week.

A report your doctor can read

Export your history as a clean PDF and send it before the appointment instead of reading numbers out from memory. PDF reports are part of DiabetLog Premium.

Apple Health on iPhone

Optional two-way sync of blood glucose readings with Apple Health, so the data sits alongside the rest of your health record. The sync happens on the device.

Who should switch, and who shouldn't

Stay with the CONTOUR DIABETES app if you own a CONTOUR NEXT ONE or NEXT GEN, the pairing works, and automatic transfer is what keeps you logging.

Switch to DiabetLog if you use a meter it won't sync with, the app isn't published where you live, you've changed brands, or you want a log with no account behind it.

CONTOUR app alternative questions

What is the best alternative to the CONTOUR DIABETES app?

It depends on why you are replacing it. If you want automatic Bluetooth sync, the honest answer is that you have to stay inside a manufacturer's ecosystem — the CONTOUR app for CONTOUR NEXT ONE and NEXT GEN meters, OneTouch Reveal for OneTouch meters. If you are happy to type your readings in, a meter-independent logbook such as DiabetLog, mySugr or Diabetes:M will accept readings from any meter. DiabetLog is the simplest of those and the only one that works with no account and stores everything on your phone.

Does DiabetLog connect to a CONTOUR NEXT ONE meter?

No. DiabetLog has no Bluetooth connection to any meter or CGM. You read the value on your CONTOUR NEXT ONE and enter it in the app. If automatic sync is the feature you care about most, the CONTOUR DIABETES app does that and DiabetLog does not.

The CONTOUR DIABETES app won't pair with my meter. Can I still keep a log?

Yes. Pairing problems don't stop you recording readings — they only stop them arriving automatically. You can enter each reading manually in DiabetLog and keep an unbroken history while you sort the pairing out with Ascensia support. Nothing is lost by logging in two places in the meantime.

The CONTOUR DIABETES app isn't available in my country. What can I use?

Ascensia publishes separate country versions of the CONTOUR DIABETES app, so availability depends on where your app store account is registered. DiabetLog is published as a single worldwide app on the App Store and Google Play, so changing country or living outside Ascensia's markets doesn't cut you off from your logbook.

Can I move my existing CONTOUR readings into DiabetLog?

There is no import. DiabetLog has no account or cloud service, so there is nowhere for another app to send data to. People usually start the DiabetLog log from the day they switch and keep any exported CONTOUR PDF as a record of what came before.

Is DiabetLog free?

DiabetLog is free to download and free to use for logging readings, charts, statistics and reminders. Premium unlocks unlimited entries and PDF doctor reports.

Does DiabetLog track food, insulin or medication like a full diabetes app?

No. DiabetLog is deliberately a blood glucose logbook and nothing more: readings, time-of-day tags, charts, a target range, reminders and PDF reports. If you need carb counting, insulin dosing or medication schedules, a broader app such as mySugr or Diabetes:M is a better fit.
